In 2005, following the release of Encore, Eminem began a hiatus in his rapping career due to the death of his best friend and fellow D12 member Proof, although he did continue to focus on producing music for the artists at his label, Shady Records. In August of 2005 Eminem cancelled his sold out European leg of his Anger Management Tour to check himself into rehab for a dependency of sleep medication.
