On December 8, 2019, Juice WRLD (Jarad Anthony Higgins) was on a private Gulfstream jet flying to Chicago Midway Airport, Illinois. On the flight, one of Higgins' entourage told him the flight was tracked down by law enforcement officials. Higgins was "in a panic attack" and started swallowing oxycodone and codeine pills.

At approximately 1:30 a.m., Higgins' jet landed at Chicago Midway Airport. Several police cars and federal agents' SUVs stopped near the jet. They asked Higgins' and his entourage to get out of the plane and bring all the luggage out. Higgins was in the plane and took several "unknown pills", including several Percocet pills, to "hide them from police." while they were searching the aircraft. Later police revealed they found 32 kilograms (70 lbs) of marijuana/cannabis in 41 "vaccum-sealed" bags, 7 bottles of codeine prescription cough syrup, 2 to 3 firearms (2 9mm pistol and possibly a .40 caliber pistol), a high-capacity ammunition magazine, 9 oxycodone pills, and metal-piercing bullets onboard the jet. Higgins and his entourage were asked to enter the airport terminal.
At approximately 2:20 a.m., in the airport, Higgins began convulsing and going into multiple seizures. A crowd had been running around to render their help. Higgins was found "bleeding from the mouth." A federal agent administered Narcan, as an opioid overdose was suspected. Higgins was placed on a stretcher and woke up briefly but incoherent, and rushed to Christ Advocate Medical Centre, where he was pronounced dead at 3:15 a.m.
