Kevin Dannell Mann (born April 5, 1969, age 42), better known by his stage name Brotha Lynch Hung, is an American rapper from Sacramento, California. He is also a member of the Crips gang.
Early and personal life[]
Mann grew up as a lonely, reclusive child, listening to Hot 97 and rappers such as Rakim and Slick Rick.[1] He started rapping at the age of 11.[2] His mom was addicted to crack and at the age of twelve his mom’s best friend raped him.
Brotha Lynch Hung is a member of the Garden Blocc Crips gang.[3] He has been involved in gang confrontations, and was shot once near Arden Fair Mall.[4] Brotha Lynch Hung has described his personal experiences in his music.[5]
His now fiancee, and girlfriend of six year's; Lauren Yvettea Brinson, is featured on Snuff Tapes, The Gas Station, Dinner and a Movie, as well as Coathanga Strangla, released on, April 5, 2011.[1]
Music career[]
Lynch first began rapping in 1983 under the name Ice Cold, he along with Sicx (then known as Strobe Light) formed a group called "The Street Talk Crew". Around 1989 with the suggestion of Sicx he changed his name to fit his rapping style and ability to take out other rappers in battle, thus becoming Brotha Lynch Hung. He then formed the group Endangered Species with Sicx and X-Raided, both of whom are now serving time in prison. He signed with Ced Singleton's Black Market Records for his 1993 debut EP, 24 Deep, which featured stories of the struggles involved with being affiliated with a local street gang in the Sacramento's "Garden Blocc". His 1995 underground classic Season of da Siccness graphically chronicled a life of drug use and sale, promiscuity, ultraviolence, rape and several other activities including cannibalism. It was certified Gold.
Hip hop style[]
Brotha Lynch Hung's lyrics are known for incorporation of graphic themes including ultraviolence, misogyny, rape and cannibalism.[5][6] He has been described as a "creator of horrorcore rap."[5] His rapping style has been described as "smooth and quickly delivered,"[5] similar in style to Spice 1.[6]
